A tick bite is usually harmless and only causes a local reaction with redness and itching. In some cases, however, the tick may carry pathogens (viruses or bacteria) that can be transmitted through the tick's saliva. The most common disease transmitted by a tick bite is Lyme borreliosis (or Lyme disease).
